Bio

Richard “Dick” Demuth, 79, of Grand Island passed away on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017 at Wedgewood Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Celebrant will be the Rev. Marty Egging. Burial of ashes will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Dick’s favorite color has always been red; his family has requested friends to honor his memory by wearing red or a favorite Husker shirt to the service. Dick was a Halloween baby, born in 1937 in Columbus to Richard and Mabel (Sutter) Demuth. As a young boy, the family moved to Grand Island. Dick was the first of three generations to graduate from Grand Island Central Catholic High School (St. Mary’s) in 1955. Dick loved rock-n-roll, especially Elvis, classic cars and football. Most days he was the No. 1 Husker fan; some days he wasn’t. Dick was a traveling salesman most of his life and could sell anything to anyone with his pocketful of jokes and his God-given gift of gab. Dick took what was to be the love of his life on a blind date in his ’57 Chevy Bel Air, the second love of his life. On Dec. 30, 1961, Dick married Nancy Hofferber. Two children were born of this union: a daughter, Dana and a son, Mickey. Sadly, Dick’s only son was tragically killed in a car accident at the young age of 28 on Feb. 15, 1995. Dick always kept Mick’s memory alive with loving conversation and reminiscing. For the past 29 years, Dick was a proud member of AA. Dick is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Nancy; daughter, Dana (Rocky) Newman and three grandchildren that he adored. Chance, Catelyn (Troy) and Callie.
