Troy Messenger Troy, Alabama Wednesday, May 23, 1900, page 2 John T. Hightower Dead. Brundidge News: Mr. John T. Hightower died at his home in Luverne, Wednesday, the 9th instant, after about a week's illness of pneumonia, brought on by lagrippe. He would have been thirty-one years old in September, and leaves a widow and three small children. Mr. Hightower was borned and raised in the vicinity of Brundidge. He started his business career and was married near here, his wife being a daughter of Mr. G. W. Ramsay, now of this city. Deceased was a son of the late John T. Hightower, Sr., a brother of O. E., C. W., and James W. Hightower, was related to many of the leading people of this section, either by blood or marriage, and enjoyed the respect and esteem of the community. Last August he moved to Luverne, with his family, where he engaged in the wood working business and was making fine progress and as a skilled artisan and good citizen was fast gaining the confidence of the people when stricken down. He had been raised up in the Methodist church and when the last hour had come he was not afraid. Retaining consciousness to the last his greatest regret was leaving his loved ones behind. The remains were brought to Pronto Thursday and interred in the family plot in the cemetery at Clay Hill church, Rev. L. P. Lathram, of this city, conducting the services. The family and relatives have the sympathy of the entire community.
