Bio

Robert Vanek, 83, of Hibbing, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, Aug. 28, 2017, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Brook Park, Minn., on Nov. 21, 1933, to Fred and Julia Vanek. He worked as a telegrapher for Great Northern Railroad for 10 years and as a maintenance planner for Jones & Laughlin-LTV mines, retiring after 30 years. Robert was united in marriage to Carol Johnson of Sandstone, Minn., in 1954. They celebrated a blessed 63 years together. Bob is survived by his wife, Carol; daughters: Linda (Randal) Neal, Terri Vanek, and Deanna (Jeffrey) Nelson; siblings: Adeline Stern, Evelyn (Everett) Moss and James Vanek; his six grandchildren: Robert Phillips, Patrick McGillivray, Randy Jr. and Grant Neal, Sydney and Samantha Nelson; and three great-grandchildren.
