Richard Edwin Palmer VETERAN | USAF 1948 - 2017 Early Life: Richard was born April 23, 1948, in Farmington, New Mexico, to George Elmo and Pearla Rozell Peine Palmer. He spent his childhood in Kirtland, New Mexico, growing up in a loving home with brothers and sisters, Elmo LaMont Palmer (Sandi), Ethel Ann Palmer, Rose Dukelow (Bob) and Barton Palmer (Jeanne). Life's Work | Service | Interests: Following high school graduation, Richard studied at New Mexico State before serving as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the California North Mission. Following his missionary service, he enrolled at Brigham Young University and while participating in the Air Force ROTC program, earned a degree in Industrial Education. On June 2, 1970, Richard married his sweetheart, Reva Haymore, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together, they embarked on what would become a journey across the country, during Richard's twenty years in the United States Air Force. He was very patriotic and loved his country. He was an aviation navigator and flew C-141s around the world, while stationed at many bases in the U.S. and Okinawa. During this time, Richard and Reva were blessed with seven children: Reva Ann Cook (Clint); Richard Edwin Palmer II (Christine); Steven Palmer (Megan); Karen Whipple (Jason); Aaron Palmer (Sharla); Joy Yuasa (Masanori); Jill O'Farrell (Austin). After retiring from the Air Force in 1993, Richard began teaching at an alternative high school in Washington State. During a few of his most memorable years, he taught teen parents. He was a beloved role model for his students during a challenging time in their lives. In 2013, Richard and Reva moved to American Fork, Utah; during their retirement years, he enjoyed many hobbies. He was particularly skilled at many types of building and could build or fix just about anything. He especially loved pouring concrete, which he was doing at the time of his passing. During the last couple of years, Richard had devoted much of his time to being a caring companion for his dear wife. Richard was a faithful member of the LDS Church and served in many callings, including bishop, high councilor, stake clerk, seminary teacher, ward mission leader and most recently, as the high priests group leader. Families that were blessed to have him as a home teacher, could plan on a visit from him each month. They and his neighbors were the recipients of many thoughtful acts of service. Beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Richard Edwin Palmer, passed away suddenly August 19, 2017, in American Fork, Utah, while involved in a service project for one of his home teaching families. He was nearly 69. Survived By: His eternal companion, Reva; seven children and their spouses, his four siblings and their spouses, and 25 grandchildren, with the 26th grandchild on the way. Preceded In Death By: His parents.
