CARLSBAD — Iva Shelton, 78, of Dearborn Street, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2007, at Lakeview Christian Home. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday. A graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Carlsbad Cemetery. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Iva Shelton was born Jan. 19, 1929, in O'Donnell, Texas to James Vernon and Alice Edmonds Jolly. She grew up in Slaton, Texas and attended school there. As a young girl she helped pick cotton and worked at the old steam laundry. She married Lundy A. Shelton on March 18, 1946. They moved to Carlsbad in 1953. She was a homemaker. She and Lundy moved to Arizona in 1986. She worked at a casino in the wardrobe department for 10 years. She returned to Carlsbad in 2001 to retire. Her hobbies included crocheting, sewing, crossword puzzles, playing cards and singing. Iva was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, seven sisters and six brothers. Survivors include: one son, Larry Shelton, and wife, Norma, of High Rolls, N,M.; one daughter, Connie DeBorde and husband, Tom, of Carlsbad; three grandchildren: Brant Lunsford, Blake Lunsford and B.J. Shelton; three great-grandchildren: Paige Lunsford, Kaitlyn Lunsford and Garrett Lunsford; sisters: June Howell and husband, Charles, of Durango, Colo.; Dorothy Edwards of Slaton, Texas; and Belle Thurman of Richland Hills, Texas; and extended family: Kathy and Randy Bryant and their children Ashley and Braylin; and James DeBorde and son Treven. Pallbearers will be Larry Shelton, Aaron Norman, Randy Bryant, Tom DeBorde and Brant Lunsford. Memorial contributions may be made to Vista Care Hospice, 611 N. Canal St, Carlbad, NM or Lakeview Christian Home, 1905 W. Pierce Street, Carlsbad, NM 88220.
