RINGLING - Graveside services for Elbert Lee Harper, 74, will be today, March 6, 2007, in Ringling Memorial Cemetery with Dr. Virgil Trout officiating. Born in Orr, Okla., to Henry Robert Harper and Mary Eudora "Bettie" Lawson Harper, he died on in Ardmore. Preceded in death by his father on Nov. 25, 1947; his mother on May 6, 1984; sisters, Myrtle E. Hall in 1975, Ruby Bell Woods in 1963, Nancy Lee Carpenter in 1984 and Shirley Claxton in 1995; and a brother, Gilford "Son" Harper. Elbert moved to Ringling as a child, graduating from high school in 1952. He was employed by Dale Allen Feed for several years before working for Stroud Lumber Company, retiring after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survived by two nephews, Gary Claxton and Kerry Lane Claxton, both of Wilson. Bearers will be Kenny Claxton, J.J. Claxton, Eugene Marshall, Mark Hammons, Oran Marshall and Terry Claxton. Alexander Funeral Home will direct services.
