For many years this grave had no tombstone although the cemetery's records showed John was buried here. Thanks to the SUVCW, District of the Columbia, Fort Walla Walla Camp 3, as of June 2021, John Jackson Russell now has a beautiful military tombstone which marks his grave. Thanks so much! Son of King David Crockett & Mary Louise ROBERTS Russell. Husband of #1, Susan A. ROBBINS (1850-1905), md. 12 September 1865 in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. Susan died on 16 April 1905 at Aurora, Madison County, Arkansas. She is buried in the Venus Cemetery in Madison County. Husband of #2, Cynthia E. MONTGOMERY Coffee, married 27 May 1906 in Aurora, Madison County, Arkansas. (After John's death, Cynthia married Isaac M. Crowley on 15 October 1916 in Pottawatomie County, OK) John Jackson Russell's grave had no tombstone until June 2021, when a Military Tombstone was placed on his grave. The cemetery had records of his burial location. At the time of his death, John Jackson Russell, was living with his daughter, Susan Ella RUSSELL Cottrell in Washington. The information on his death certificate was provided by "Mrs. H. F. Cottrell" (that was Susan). John served in the Union Army, Co. A and Co. B, 1st Arkansas Infantry from February 1863 to 10 August 1865. His brothers, Stephen Taylor Russell and Bennett Russell, also served in the 1st Arkansas Infantry. John contracted measles while serving during the Civil War which resulted in him being blind.
