Bio

The Gurr family fled Mexico in the Exodus of 1912 caused by the Mexican Revolution. Delbert was just 15 months old when that happened. After spending some time in El Paso with the other thousands of refugees, the family made the decision to move to Idaho, first to the Idaho Falls area, then to Oakley. Eventually they moved to Richfield, Utah. Delbert married Ellen E Johnson on November 17, 1930 in Sevier county, Utah. From Reno Gazette-Journal (Reno, Nevada) - Friday, June 2, 2000: Delbert Lorenzo Gurr, 89, of Sparks, died May 30, 200 at Washoe Medical Center. A native of Colonia Pacheco, Chihuahua, Mexico, he was born May 6, 1911 to John Miles and Alice (Rowley) Gurr and had lived in the Reno area for the past 54 years, coming from Utah. Gurr was a home builder for 67 years. He was a member of the Carpenters' Union and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He attended schools in Utah. Wife, Ellen, died Jan. 7, 1997. Surviving are sons, Neil L. and Roger, and a daughter, Gayle Lane Garrison, all of Sparks; daughter, Delores A. Jandebeur, of Fallon; brother, Glen, and sister, Zella Roberts, both of Utah; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. No funeral is schedule. Inurnment will be at Mountain View Cemetery. Cremation will be at Masonic Memorial Gardens Crematory under the direction of Ross, Burke & Knobel Mortuary, Sparks.
