Bio

Elzada is the firstborn child of John Miles (or Mailes) and Lucy Perlina Ford. The couple had five other children. Only the second child, Hannah Elizabeth and Elzada lived to adulthood. The other four children died as infants in Council Bluffs and then their father died also. Lucy continued on to the West with the two daughters. They settled in Provo, Utah. Elzada married Reuben Gurr on November 30, 1867 in the Endowment House in Salt Lake City, Utah. He had immigrated with his family from Australia in 1857. Elzada and Reuben became parents to seven children: William Reuben, Enoch Elijah, Hannah Elizabeth, John Miles, Lucy Perlina, Sarah Bernette, and Adelbert. Reuben married another wife in 1878. He was sent to the State Penitentiary for a year in 1889. He served eleven months of the sentence. Shortly after he was released Reuben and Elzada separated. According to family records she married again to a James or John Harmon in Joseph, Utah. Reuben had moved to Colonia Pacheco in 1899. Elizada moved there also with some of her children. She died in Pacheco and according to family records is buried there. The grave is likely unmarked because of the destruction to Pacheco by the rebels of the Mexican Revolution in 1912.
