Joetta Steinke, 84, died on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at ValleyCare and Rehab in Barnesville, MN. Joetta Rae Roesch was born on January 23, 1933 to Raymond and Helen (Legross) Roesch in Moorhead, MN. She grew up in Downer and attended the Assumption Catholic School through the 8th grade. She continued on at Barnesville High School where she graduated in 1951. She worked in Fargo, ND as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell. In April of 1954, she married Marvin Possehl in Tacoma, Washington, while he was stationed at Fort Lewis Army Base. They moved back to Barnesville to settle and raise a family. They purchased the Standard Oil Gas Station in Barnesville where Joetta helped work. Using her step stool to climb and wash windows of the semi’s driving through on old Hwy 52. To this union two children were born, Linda and Jim. In May of 1967, Marvin passed away unexpectedly at the young age of 34. In 1973, Joetta married Carl Steinke and during these years she worked various jobs in the Barnesville area. Joetta helped run the Traveler’s Inn with Carl. She also worked at the Red Owl, Dick’s Dad and Lad, and waitressed at the Eagle Café. In 1984, when Carl suffered a stroke, Joetta was his nurse and caretaker. Carl died in 1989. Joetta also helped care for her grandchildren as they grew up. She was a member of Assumption Catholic Church and St. Anne’s Guild, and a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliary. She is survived by two children: Linda Davidson and James Possehl; two step daughters: Cynthia Johnson and Carol Erlendson; two grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Joetta is preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; and sister, LeRae Ludemann. ( Dobmeier Funeral Home, Barnesville, MN)
