Bruce Alan Royer born July 7, 1946 departed this life on July 16, 2017 at the age of 71. He was a lifelong resident of DeQuincy, La. and a 1965 graduate of DeQuincy High School. He was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church. Bruce started working at George Theriot’s Grocery in 1966, working up to manager of the store. He continued to work in the grocery business for Supermarkets Interstate, Beards’ Piggly Wiggly and Brookshire Bros. until 1995, when he retired as produce manager. In 1990 he and his wife became the janitors for First United Pentecostal Church. A job that he was proud to do because he could do extra things for the work of the Lord. He had a servant’s heart. Bruce did not allow his handicaps to slow him down. His mind was always coming up with something new that he could do to make things work better and easier. He loved to give things out to men and women that worked at the church and in the community. He would leave cokes for the garbage men and water and cokes were available to the mail carriers because he appreciated the job that they did to make life easier. Bruce was a member of the Boy Scout Troop 27. He started out in 1955 and continued through his teen years. He was a Life Scout. He later became the scout master for Troop 27 where he worked with many young boys trying to teach them to “Be Prepared” and to make the “Scout Oath” an important part of their life. He truly lived by the Scout Law, Oath and Motto. “On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.” The loves of his life, his girls, are his survivors. His wife of 48 years, Linda Woodward Royer of DeQuincy. Daughters, Shannon Michelle (Jaime) Buie of Livingston, Texas and Summer Mist Royer of DeQuincy. Grandaughter, Ashley Nicole Buie of Burton, Michigan. He has several nephews, nieces, cousins and his special extended “Big Family”, which he was proud to be a part. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jackson Brown Royer and Jewel Simmons Royer; one brother, Kenneth R. Royer and two sisters, Mildred VanWinkle and Marion (Moochie) Cooley. Bruce will be sorely missed by his family, his friends and his church. He loved DeQuincy, his hometown, and was proud to be a part of the Louisiana Days Railroad Festival every year.
