ALFONS HOLUBEC Alfons Holubec was born March 8, 1915, in Runnels County to Joe and Albina Holubec. He and his twin, Arnold, were the second and third of eight children. Alfons died January 8, 2002. He attended Angelo Business College for a year while living in one of the officers quarters at Fort Concho. He then began farming in Concho County. In December 1939, he married Lillie Kohutek. In 1945, they purchased a farm east of Wall, Texas, and he moved his farming and livestock business to Tom Green County. He was one of the founding directors and secretary-treasurer of the Wall Co-op Gins. Alfons was instrumental in securing the funding for Wall Co-op Gins from area farmers and then resigned from the board of directors when the Wall Co-op Gins became debt-free. In the early 1950s, he led the process to establish the consolidation of the Wall School District with the Hess Averett School District, which gave the Wall ISD its current eastern boundary. He was a director of Concho Valley Electric Co-op for several years, past president of the Wall PTA, and a director of R.V.O.S. Insurance Company. In 1999, he was elected as an Honorary Director for Life of R.V.O.S. Alfons and his wife, Lillie, enjoyed attending the sporting events of their sons, Kenneth and Bill. They also enjoyed fishing at Lake L.B.J., Brady Lake and at O.C. Fisher, and spent countless nights playing dominoes with friends in the community. His son, Kenneth, who died in July 1969 while on his first run with the Wall Volunteer Fire Department, predeceased him. Alfons retired in March 1977. Lillie died in October 1977. He married Lillian Williams in January of 1979. They enjoyed traveling to many parts of the U.S. and to many countries abroad. She died in August 1998. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Pam Holubec of San Angelo, Texas; and granddaughters, Crystalyn Holubec of Dallas, Texas, and Summer Holubec of Boston. Kenneths children, Sandra Wells and her husband, Gary, of Flower Mound, Texas, and Rodney Hugghins and his wife, Jenny, of Rockwall, Texas, also survive him; as well as their children, Christopher, Derek, Trey, Hillary, Kara and Jake. A sister, Ella Kudlacek of Ballinger; brothers, Julius Holubec of Rowena and Melton Holubec of Hereford, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive him. The family requests that any memorials be given to the Kenneth Holubec Memorial Scholarship at Angelo State University, which has helped fund the education of Wall High School graduates at ASU since 1970, at Kenneth Holubec Memorial Scholarship, Box 11023, ASU Station, San Angelo, TX 76909. The family wishes to express its gratitude to the staff of Royal Estates; his life had been enriched by the care he had received there during the last three years. Also appreciated is the staff of Regency House and VistaCare Family Hospice. Family received visitors at Johnsons Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9. Service will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10, at Johnsons Funeral Home in San Angelo. Interment will be in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be nephews and grandsons.
