Bio
Velma Marie Gordon Wilton, 87, of Corsicana, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery, with Rev. Danny Reeves of First Baptist Church officiating. Marie, as she preferred to be called, was born in Corsicana, Texas, the 12th child of the late May Sue "Susie" Hanson Gordon and Samuel Oscar Gordon. She grew up in Oak Valley and attended junior high and high school in Corsicana, graduating in 1948. She attended Navarro Jr. College and finished her nurse's training at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. Marie had given her heart to Jesus when she was 13 at the First Baptist Church of Corsicana. On Oct. 2, 1952, she married Donald Paul Wilton at the First Baptist Church of Corsicana. They had a daughter, Katherine Marie Wilton Akin, and two sons, Donald Edward Wilton and Vernon Franklin Wilton. Marie ended her nursing career at Navarro Regional Hospital in 1992 after 18 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald P. Wilton; daughter, Katherine Marie Wilton Akin; and 11 siblings. She is survived by her sons, Edward and Vernon Wilton; four granddaughters; three great-grandsons; many other relatives and numerous friends. M5
