Son of Nicholas & Evelyn (Polak) Speicher. He attended St. Francis Academy and graduated from St. Bonaventure High School. After graduation, he worked in a bakery before joining the US Army on April 2, 1942. Leonard served in the following battles and campaigns: Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe where he was in demolitions. He was decorated with the Purple Heart for and injury received on July 4, 1944 in France, the Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Service Arrowhead and the EAME Ribbon. He was discharged on October 23, 1945. He returned to Columbus and went to work for the Columbus Brewery. After leaving the brewery, Leonard went to work at Behlen Manufacturing as a sheet metal worker. He married Teresa Santner on December 14, 1968. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, the VFW, and the American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening. Memorials may be directed to: American Legion Higgins Project or the Columbus Hospital Skilled Care Unit.
