Mavis Reneau McCollum Novelli, 84, died Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, at Hospice of Marshall County - Shepherd's Cove. Services were Sunday, Sept. 4, at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church with Dr. William Phares officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Adams Funeral Home was in charge. Mrs. Novelli was born in Blount County, on Jan. 1, 1927. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Carroll Reneau. She moved to Marshall County from Lanett to be closer to her family. She owned a family restaurant while living in Lanett and was lovingly called "Ms. Mac" by all who knew her. She enjoyed cooking and working in her flower garden and was a member of the Lanett Garden Club. She was an active member of the Lanett First United Methodist Church, where she was named Woman of the Year in 2003. She loved being with her family and was instrumental in their closeness and dedication to one another. Survivors include her two sons, Mike (Marie) McCollum, of Albertville, and Tim (Jean) McCollum, of Birmingham; her daughter, Susan McCollum (Jason) Miklic, of Birmingham; five grandchildren, Michael McCollum, John McCollum, Brooks Miklic, Robin Limbaugh and Christi Martin; two great-grandchildren, Michael Limbaugh and Sarah Alice Limbaugh; two sisters, Iladine Hutcherson, of Alexander City, and Jonnie Reneau, of Panama City, Fla. She was preceded in death by husbands, Buford McCollum and Angelo Novelli; her parents; and her sister, Justine Hutcherson. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Hospice of Marshall County/Shepherd's Cove, 408 Martling Road, Albertville, AL, 35951.
