On June 28, 1939, Leonard was united in marriage to Helen Jedlicka at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Schuyler, Nebraska. He did commercial corn shelling for farmers in the area for many years. Leonard farmed north and south of Clarkson until 1990 when they moved into Clarkson. This did not mean that he retired. After moving to town, he worked for an area farmer until 2001, then he began working for Bluebird Nursery in Clarkson, where he continued until he finally retired at the age of 97. Leonard took pride in the well-manicured areas that he mowed for them, and received many compliments. He drove without one accident or ticket for his entire life until after his 100 birthday. Leonard loved horses and was happiest when he could hitch his team of Belgians up to a wagon and give his grandchildren a ride. He was a member of SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Clarkson.
