Bio
Emma Florence Lichnovsky Slavik, 96, formerly of Edna, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. She was born on March 6, 1921 in Weimar, Texas to William and Antonia Kofron Lichnovsky. Emma attended St. Michael Catholic School in Weimar and graduated from Weimar High School. She received her RN Diploma from St. Joseph Hospital in Houston. On Monday, April 6, 1942 she married Charles Slavik, they were blessed with three sons and one daughter. Emma and Charles were members of St. Michael Catholic Church in Weimar until they moved to Edna where they joined St. Agnes Catholic Church, where she became a member of the Catholic Daughters and taught third grade Sunday School. Emma was an unbelievable baker; she was always baking kolaches, bread, cookies, cakes, and pies. She was a superb gardener, she had a huge garden at her home in Edna. She also had a knack for needlework, she crocheted, sewed, embroidered, and also quilted. She also canned fruits and vegetables, grape juice from wild grapes from El Toro, and she won many awards and ribbons at the Jackson County Fair. In 2010, when Emma moved into Trinity Terrace Retirement Home in Fort Worth, she became a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Fort Worth and was a member of St. Patrick's Cathedral. She was quite active at the retirement center, she played bridge four times a week, and usually gin rummy once a week. She made several new friends during her time in Fort Worth during those activities, she could play 2-3 cards of bingo at the same time. With the help and support of her daughter and granddaughter, she volunteered at the Texas Ranger Baseball Park in the Women's Club and even enjoyed a few Dallas Cowboy games at the new stadium and also some Dallas Maverick games. Services were Friday, March 17 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, visitation began at noon with Rosary beginning at 1:30 p.m. and Funeral Mass at 2 p.m. with Father Michael Petering officiating.
