Vestnik newspaper Wednesday, June 3, 2009 Sophie E. Machann passed away on April 12, 2009, at College Station Medical Center. Sister Machann was born on June 5, 1918, the fourth child of Frank and Sophie Maresh Matcek. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph and Frantiska (Sweda) Matcek. Her maternal grandparents were Vince and Emilie (Muller) Maresh. She married Johnnie W. Machann in 1938. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in College Station. She was preceded in death by husband Johnnie W. Machann. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Clinton and Ginny Machann of College Station; brothers and sisters-in-law Gable and Lynne Matcek of Caldwell and Clinton and Bettye Matcek of Bryan; sister Frances Scarbrough of Houston; granddaughters Elizabeth Alena Horn and husband Kersten, Theresie Sophie West and husband Timothy, and Sarah Frantiska Machann; and great-grandson Marc Jacob Horn. Funeral services for Sophie E. Machann were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 16 at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell with the Reverend Dimitrij Colankin officiating. Burial was in Caldwell Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Timothy West, Kersten Horn, Gabriel Matcek, Lance Kovar, Nathan See, and James Matcek. Honorary pallbearers were Clinton Matcek, Don Campbell, William Elsik, Gene Elsik, David Elsik, Alton Machann, A.C. Machann, Robert Machann, James Mitchell, and Trevin Matcek.
