CARLSBAD — A funeral service for Edward L. "Sonny" Crenshaw will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at West Funeral Home Chapel with retired minister Rev. Ray Taunton of Oklahoma officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with family receiving visitors from 6-8 p.m. at West Funeral Home. Arrangements are by West Funeral Home. Edward Lee Crenshaw was born July 5, 1928 in Balmorhea, Texas to Arnor Edward Lee and Maude C. (Stull) Crenshaw. He moved to Carlsbad in the early 1950s. He married Pearl Ann Whitmire on July 2, 1954 in Carlsbad. Ed sold insurance for various companies for over 15 years. He then became employed with the Carlsbad School system as assistant head custodian for Carlsbad High School, retiring after 10 years. Ed never met a stranger. He was raised in the Baptist faith and was a member of Cottonwood Gun Club and North Mesa Senior Citizens. Ed raised and trained bird dogs and enjoyed bird hunting. Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years on June 12, 2006, and his parents. Ed is survived by three daughters: Denise Smart and husband Ernest of Green River, Wyo.; Melinda Crenshaw of Carlsbad; and Renee Muije and husband Paul of Rock Springs, Wyo.; grandchildren: Shawn Smart, Shane Smart, Arner Smart, Kimberly Smart Bokor, Nick Muije and Cherae Muije; and great-grandchildren: Hunter Smart and Jaxson Smart. Pallbearers will be Paul Muije, Ernest Smart, Nick Muije, Jodi Stockard, Jack Servold and Tony Dominguez. Honorary pallbearers will be H.B. Whiteaker, Joe Stanco, Del Conner, Bill Bartlett, Jesse McGary, Jerry Peacock, Dale Sedgwick and the members of the Cottonwood Gun Club. Memorial contributions may be made to the Landsun Caring Hands or Hospice, 2002 Westridge, Carlsbad, NM 88220 or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
