Bio

Veronica “Vera” Janacek Barta, 75, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 12, 2017. She was born in Schulenburg, Texas to Wesley Janacek Sr. and Angelina Lebeda Janacek. She graduated from Schulenburg High School in 1959 with her High School Sweetheart, Leo “Sonny” Barta Jr. They were married the following year on October 1, 1960 in Schulenburg, Texas. They were the owners of Barta Electric Inc. in Baytown, Texas. She was a member of St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church of Highlands. Vera enjoyed going to the casinos and attending games for the Astros, Texans, and the Rockets. She loved spending time with her family and was affectionately known as “Memaw” by her grandchildren. Vera will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Leo “Sonny” Barta Jr.; parents, Wesley Sr. & Angelina Janacek; brother, Edwin Janacek and wife Patsy; sister, Marian Schimcek and husband Hilton; and brother-in-law, Errol Campbell. Vera is survived by her daughters Tammie Barta, and Terri Hotchkiss and husband Sammy; grandchildren, Ryan Hotchkiss and wife Kim, Tiffany McCain and husband Kyle, and Heather Hotchkiss; one future great-grandson; sister, Alice Campbell; brother, Wesley Janacek Jr. and wife Linda; furry friend, Bebe; and a host of extended relatives and friends. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm at Sterling White Funeral Home. Funeral services begin at 11:00 am on Friday, June 16, 2017 at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 800 S. Main St., Highlands, Texas 77562. Interment will be in Sterling-White Cemetery.
