George L. Roach of El Campo died Dec. 21, 2009, at the age of 84. He was born in El Campo on Feb. 22, 1925, to the late Charlie and Rettie Walker Roach. He was a longtime farmer and rancher. He also was retired from Wharton County Precinct 2 as a dragline operator and also from ECISD school bus barn. He was a member of St. Robert's Catholic Church, Sons of Hermann, Catholic Life and RVOS. He is survived by his sons, John Roach and wife Cheryl of El Campo, Jimmy Roach and wife Joyce of Edna, and Kenny Roach and wife Roxane of Katy; grandchildren, Tiffany Riha and husband Troy, Ashley Koudela and husband Jason, Austin Roach, Zachary Roach, and Jason Roach; step-grandchildren, Ron Gabrysch and wife Denise, and Michael Gabrysch and wife Shannon; great-grandchildren, Cole and Camie Riha, Tristan and Trentin Gabrysch, and Tavia and Taylor Gabrysch. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn Shimek Roach; and sister, Hettie Halling. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m., Wednesday, at Triska Funeral Home with a rosary being offered at 6 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 24th, at St. Robert's Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Memorial Park Mausoleum under the direction of Triska Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers are Troy Riha, Jason Koudela, Rick Shimek, Ronnie Shimek, Bob Shimek, and Jerry Shimek Jr. Honorary pallbearer is Cole Riha.
