John went home to be with his Lord on July 8, 2013, at age 96. After a lifetime of back pain and deafness, he is enjoying a perfect body in Heaven. John was born and raised in IA. Unable to join the military during WWII, he helped in construction at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and worked for a time on the railroad. He and Marty moved to Colfax, WA to join his brother as a physical therapist. He spent several years as a Deputy Sherriff and in 1958 moved his family to Olympia when he took a job as head of the Weights and Measures division of the Agriculture Dept. He held that position for almost 25 years until retirement. During retirement years, he was actively involved at Emmanuel church, Gideon's International and Tumwater Mobile Home Estates where he lived for many years. He delighted in growing beautiful flowers, especially roses. He was preceded in death by his first wife Marty of 59 years and is survived by his second wife Esther (Wolfenbarger). He is also survived by his children: Sharon of Limerick, PA and husband Dale, and son Roger and his wife Marge of Shelton. John enjoyed his 7 grandchildren and delighted in 15 great grandchildren. He was a special uncle to numerous nieces and nephews, one of which called him, 'Uncle Daddy!' Esther's children are Jack, Jane and Russ and their families. We will miss our father but are thankful for the Godly heritage that he left for us and our children. ~ Transcribed from Dignity Memorial
