Born to Ludmilla "Lilian" Albina Vavak and Edward Alfed Novotny. He married Dorothy Pauline Jambor (1932-1951); however, she passed shortly after they wed. He married Sybil Jeanette Attaway (1934-1979) and had 4/5 children. Sadly, this union ended in divorce. In 1972, he married Dorothy Barbara (Ptacnik) Lipinski. He adopted Dorothy's youngest daughter Maria. They gave Maria the option to change her name upon the adoption. She chose to change it to Donna Maria Elena Novotny. Ed went to grade school and high school in Prague, Nebraska. He graduated in 1950. He attended Wesleyan University in Lincoln, NE. He taught English in Valparaiso, NE before being sent to Corpus Christi, Texas in the Navy. Upon his first discharge and remaining in the Naval Reserves, he moved back to Nebraska. He proposed to Dorothy by first asking Donna if she would be his daughter if he married her mom. Ed and Dorothy married in 1972 in Plattsmouth, NE. Ed finally and formally discharged from the Navy in 1982. He was a proud Shellback. His granddaughter Sam made him even more proud when she joined the Navy after she graduated from High School. Ed and Dorothy remained in their home in Fremont until Dorothy's passing in 2008. In 2010, Ed sold their home as the upkeep became too much for him. In 2013, Ed battled with mouth and throat cancer. He won this round after a major surgery and radiation treatments. On February 7, 2017, Ed passed away surrounded by his Granddaughters.
