She was known as Anne Ostry prior to joining the Notre Dame Sisters. Notre Dame Sister Mildred Ostry died April 17 at the Saint Joseph's Hospital in Omaha Nebraska. She was 72 years old. Funeral services were held at the Notre Dame Motherhouse on April 19. Burial was in the Calvary cemetery in Omaha. For more than 41 years Sister Ostry served as an elementary teacher, principal, tutor, librarian and teachers aide. In the archdiocese of Omaha, she served at Notre Dame School and Assumption School in Omaha, Saint Wenceslaus in Dodge and Bishop Newman in Clarkson, Nebraska. Her other teaching assignments took her to Iowa and Kansas. In her later years of teaching and in her retirement, Sister Ostry devoted numerous hours to tutoring grade school students from Florence Elementary and Saint Philip Neri and Saint Richard Schools in Omaha. Having survived two major surgeries for lung cancer Sister Ostry had a great devotion to Saint Peregrine, the patron saint of diseases. She would have celebrated her 50th year in religious profession in July. Notre Dame official said that Sister Ostry was an example of patience, long-suffering, trust in God's providence and gentleness.
