From The Phonograph, December 31, 1958, transcribed by Linda Berney: Former Dannebrog Man Dies of Suffocation in Feed Mill Accident at Humboldt Saturday - Funeral services were scheduled to be held in Dannebrog today (Wednesday) for Howard E. Fries, 30, formerly of Dannebrog, who died of suffocation Saturday in an accident at Cooper Mills in Humboldt. Authorities investigating the accident reported that Fries was suffocated when he was covered by ground soybean meal while attempting to clear out an auger in the feed mill. Attempts were begun immediately to uncover him, but he was reached too late to save his life. The accident occurred about 11:00 A.M. Mr. Fries is survived by his wife, Marjorie and six children, as well as other relatives. Funeral services were to be held at the Dannebrog Lutheran church at 2:00 P.M., with Rev. Norman Freund, of St. Paul, officiating. Jacobsen Mortuary is in charge of arrangements with burial scheduled for Oak Ridge Cemetery, Dannebrog. Mr. Fries was born September 9, 1928 near Dannebrog, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Fries. He was married to Marjorie Gilliland Lantz on May 9, 1953. He is survived by his wife; two step children, Rajean and Eugene; four other children, Richard, David, Lester and Diana; his parents; and a sister, Beverly and two brothers, Lyle and Wayne, all of Dannebrog.
