Helen W. Mason, age 84, of Storm Lake, passed away on Tuesday, Sept 21,2010 at Loring Hospital in Sac City. A funeral service was held on Saturday, Sept 25, 2010 at 12 p.m. at Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta. Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery. Helen W. Mason was born in Silver Creek, Neb., on April 4, 1926, to Boy and Minnie (Swartz) Swartz. As a young girl she and her parents traveled in covered wagons in the Midwest She and her family would make wicker baskets, create paper flowers and broom holders. She even picked corn for a penny a bushel. Helen and Ray Mason were married for 64 years and were blessed with 12 children, who were Helen's whole life. She loved taking care of them and made many pans of fried potatoes, pots of beans, dough cakes and coffee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Boy and Minnie Swartz; her husband, Ray Mason; two daughters, Daisy May and Helen Kay; and one granddaughter, Markita Lynn. Helen is survived by five daughters and five sons: Linda Mason of Storm Lake, Rango and Tina Mason of Blencoe, Ace Boy Mason, Dorothy Mason of Nebraska City, Neb., Ray Mason of Milford, Neb., Sophie Mason of Nebraska City, Neb., Jesse and Debbie Mason of Glenwood, Curly and Debbie Mason of Fairmont, Minn., Joe Mason of Lincoln, Neb., Mutzy Mason of Coffeeville, Kan., and Patsy Pernell of Denver, Colo.; grandchildren: Cisco Mason, Trenton Mason, Poncho Mason, Marie and Roy Jr. Mason, Angie Mason, Jenny Mason, Spots Mason, Darlene Mason, Bambi Ann Mason, Tator and Jessica Mason, Loretta Mason, Tiger and Lisa Mason, Windy Mason, Shantilly and Brian Mason, Levi Mattenklodt, Jimmy Peterson, Suellen Peterson, Elvis Allen-Mason, Samantha Moore, Shelby Lynn Moore, David Moore, Ashley Moore; great ­grandchildren, Bobby James, Dallas Dan, Alyssa, Lessa Lynn, Kaylee, Pepper John, Starlette, Braden, Gavin, Isaiah, Micka, Brook, Roy III, Jesse, Madison, Janis Babe; and also a wonderful friend, Monie Davis.
