William J. McPhillips, 78, formerly of Scotch Plains, New Jersey died Saturday, December 02, 2000 in his Bethlehem home. Born in Burlington, Vermont, he was the son of the late Cornelius F. and Margaret K. (Kelly) McPhillips. William was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War serving as a Salvage Diver during the Normandy Invasion and at Okinawa. He married Carol P. Peterson in March 1951. William received a Civil Engineering Degree from Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado. He was Vice President of Weeks Marine, Incorporated, Cranford, New Jersey for twenty-five years and established it's Dredging Division prior to retiring in 1986. William was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, Bethlehem. He was a Volunteer for the American Cancer Society and Boys and Girls Club, Bethlehem. William is survived by his wife of forty-nine years: Carol P. McPhillips; his daughters: Sheela M. Donchez of Bethlehem and Kathleen C. Perlman of Sarasota, Florida; his sons: William J. McPhillips, Jr. of Houston, Texas and Robert C. McPhillips of South Orange, New Jersey; his nine grandchildren; his sister: Margaret J. of Midland Park, New Jersey; and, his brothers: C. F. McPhillips of Phoenix, Arizona, Brian McPhillips of Apple Valley, California, and Gerald P. McPhillips of Culpeper, Virginia. Family and Friends may Call from 07:00 - 09:00 PM on Wednesday, December 06, 2000 in Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad Street, Bethlehem. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 09:30 AM on Thursday, December 07, 2000 in St. Anne's Catholic Church, Bethlehem.
