Bio

Norma Weight Mecham, Faithful daughter of God, departed from this mortal existence Thursday, March 23, 2017, at her home in Provo, Utah. She was born in Springville, Utah on July 10, 1929 to Leo D. and Lola Brown Weight and lived there until moving to England (1950-1952), where she served in the British Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She graduated from Springville High and attended BYU. She was a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir before and after her mission and continued to love music and singing throughout her life. She sang with her wonderful ward choir until the year before her passing. A wilting bouquet of pink roses helped her know she wanted to marry her sweetheart Ray Mecham. They were married on June 9th, 1954 in the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple. With their six children, Linda (Michael) Finlayson, Ray (Jan Hemingway), Wendy (LDee) Nord, Nora (Brent) Limb, Lori (Robert) Dunkle and John (Jilene Snow), they moved often living in 10 states (several of them more than once) as Ray served in the Air Force. In 1978 he retired and they settled in Provo, Utah. She served faithfully in each calling given her including Ward and Stake Relief Society President, Choir Director, Ward Chorister, Stake Music Librarian, Provo Temple Ordinance worker, and especially Mother and Wife. Many lives have been blessed for good by her love and acceptance. Her motto was “Our door is always open” and her home was always a warm accepting place for family, friend, or new acquaintance. Each of her children, 34 grand-children and 43 great-grandchildren have been blessed by her teachings, example, and love. She loved to quilt and garden and had an amazing talent for both. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray, son Ray, daughter Lori, grandson Jacob, her parents, her brothers Glen and Eldean Weight, and sister-in-law Carol. Visitation Sunday April 2nd, 6-8 p.m. at the Provo Walker Sanderson Funeral Home 85 E. 300 S. Provo UT and Monday April 3, 9 -10:30 a.m. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 1260 W. 1150 N.
