Bio

Harold Norman, age 94, of Ramona, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at the Bethel Lutheran Home. Memorial service will be 10:30 AM on Monday, March 27th at St. William's Catholic Church in Ramona with Father Paul Josten officiating. Visitation will be 2-4 PM on Sunday at Weiland Funeral Chapel and will continue Monday one hour prior at the church. Inurnment will be in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Badus Township. Military honors will be provided by the US Navy assisted by Ramona American Legion and Madison VFW & American Legion. Memorials may be directed to: Ramona Fire Dept., PO Box 32, Ramona, SD 57054. Harold LaVerne Norman was born July 22, 1922 to Lavern & Irene (McDonald) Norman on the family farm near Hampton, IA. Harold graduated from Ramona High School in 1940. He enlisted in the US Navy during WWII and served from 1942-46. While in the service, he married his high school sweetheart, Helen Cassutt in Jacksonville, FL on November 20, 1943. They returned to the Ramona area to farm and raise their five children. He was a lifelong member of the Ramona American Legion. In his spare time, he loved fishing and traveling. His real joy was hosting the many family events at the farm with grandchildren & great grandchildren. Harold loved being a farmer his entire life, even after retirement he continued to help Bob on the family farm. Harold is survived by his wife of 73 years, Helen of Ramona; children, Connie (Ray) Gustafson of Sioux Falls, Robert (Nancy) on the family farm, Carolyn (Jim) Fletchall of Oldham and Cathy (Tom) Courtney of Ocala, FL; daughter-in-law, Genia of Ramona; 10 grandchildren & 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald; sister, Helen & his parents. Thank you to the entire staff at Bethel Lutheran Home for their compassionate care & attention. - Weiland Funeral Chapel
