Bio

Leona Anna Bezdek, 85, of Abbott, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, in West, a rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Friday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott, with Msgr. Frank Miller as celebrant. Burial will follow at Fatima Cemetery near Abbott. Leona was born in West, Texas, to the late Joe Frank and Agnes Marie (Bartosh) Tichavsky. She was raised in the Chatt area of Hill County and attended Chatt School and Jesse School. On Oct. 20, 1944, she was united in marriage to Jerry J. Bezdek in San Antonio. She was a homemaker and also worked in the dietary department of the West Community Hospital for over 15 years before she retired in 1987. Leona was a very active and faithful member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, where she served on the Ladies Altar Society and the "Quilters For Christ". She was also a social member of the K.J.Z.T. Society No. 104, the Catholic Daughters of America, and the West V.F.W. Post 4819 Ladies Auxillary. Leona loved quilting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Louis Tichavsky; and sisters, Frances Grones and Rosie Kallus. Survivors include her beloved husband of 62 years, Jerry J. Bezdek, of Abbott; son, Michael Bezdek and his wife, Jan, of Abbott; daughters, Barbara Bezdek, of Chalk Bluff, and Linda Rosen and her husband, Jay, of Houston; grandchildren, Rachel Rosen, Zachary Rosen, Jeff Bezdek and James Bezdek; sister, Lillie Adair, of West; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
