Son of Rev. Walter Scott and Virginia (Corbell) Gibbs. Douglas was preceded in death by his siblings, Carlos Gibbs, Houston Gibbs, Ivy Gibbs, Jack Gibbs, Annie Gibbs Dubose, Hester Gibbs Nance, Lela Gibbs, Annie Flowers, and Florence Gibbs. ------------------------------ Douglas R. Gibbs, 96, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2005. Douglas was born on November 24, 1908 on Spade Ranch in Colorado City, Texas to Walter Scott Gibbs and Virginia Corbell Gibbs. He moved to Beeville, Texas when he was one years old. He graduated from Beeville High School and went to Howard Payne College for two years studying sports and to be a coach. This was interrupted by World War II. He was an infantryman in the U. S. Army carrying gasoline for General Patton. He landed at Utah Beach was in France and Germany and liberated the concentration camps. He married the love of his life Emma Hennig Gibbs, August 12, 1937. He worked 28 years for Mobil Oil Corporation, the last 22 in Premont, Texas. Douglas and Emma returned to Corpus Christi in 1978. Mr. Gibbs was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Virginia Corbell Gibbs, brothers and sisters Carlos Gibbs, Houston Gibbs, Ivy Gibbs, Jack Gibbs and Annie Gibbs Dubose, Hester Gibbs Nance, Lela Gibbs, Annie Flowers, Florence Gibbs also he is preceded in death by his brothers-in law and sisters-in-law, Carl and Bea Hennig, William and Tillie Harris, John and Lula Hennig, Leo and Albina Hennig, Herman and Christina Hennig, John and Annie Kitto, John and Dora Syme, Victor and Edna Mussman, August Hennig and Bart and Hulda Bauman. His survivors include his wife of 68 years, Emma Hennig Gibbs of Corpus Christi, Texas; nieces, Lynn La Fevre (Jack) of Austin, Texas, Mary Harris Hankins of San Antonio, Texas and nephews, Joe Harris (Leah) of San Antonio, Texas, Kenneth Mussman (Shirley), Robstown, Texas; dear friends and neighbors, Thomas and Brenda Phillips of Corpus Christi and many other nieces and nephews. A Visitation will be held on Friday, August 5, 2005 at Seaside Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be celebrated on Saturday, August 6, 2005 at Seaside Funeral Home Reid Chapel.
