KEARNEY — Dorthy Ellen Barr, 87, of Kearney, formerly of Ord and Hastings, died Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Kearney Regional Medical Center. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Kearney E. Free Church. Inurnment will be later. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Dorthy was born April 27, 1929, in Ord to Benjamin and Ida (Hull) Morris. She graduated from Ord High School in 1948. She married Robert J. Sich on March 5, 1950, at Bethel Baptist Church in Ord. The couple farmed and raised their three children, David, Roxanne and Rosellen. For 11 years, Dorthy was a Girls Scout leader and Day Camp director in Ord. She worked outside the home at Absalon Variety Store, Ord Locker and Cetak’s Grocery Store. Robert passed away in 1977. She later married Stanley H. Barr on Feb. 14, 1988, at the United Methodist Church in Ord. Stanley passed away in 2011. Artistic talents lead her to create beautiful stained-glass pieces. She had a business called Touch of Glass. Dorthy later began drawing and painting. Survivors include a son, David R. Sich of Holbrook; two daughters and sons-in-law, Roxanne and Rick Nelson of Hastings and Rosellen and Ken Harvey of Kearney; Kim Radil of Comstock and Cindy Courtney of Hastings, whom Dorthy considered as daughters; four grandchildren and their spouses, Heather and Justin Crawford of Orleans, David and Alex Harvey of Omaha, Brittany and Tanner Sorensen of Hemingford and Derrick Nelson of Hastings; four great-grandchildren, Lexi, Jamin, Beth and Joseph Crawford; and two sisters, Etta Pesha and her husband, Jerry, of Wibaux, Mont., and Carol Ann McMullin of Aurora, Mo.; and a stepson, Roger Barr of Omaha. Dorthy was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; two brothers, Benjamin and Virgil Morris; a sister, Fern Flaherty; stepson, Stanley Barr; and stepdaughter, Sharellyn (Barr) Sartain.
