Bio

Olia (Olea) Holen, was born on the Holen farm, Brufladt, South Aurdal, Valders, Norway. She came to America in 1881 with her mother and her five other siblings. Her father had come over a year before, and worked as a carpenter to earn money for their passage. She grew up on her parents farm near Popejoy, Iowa, and went by the name Lena. In 1887 the family changed their last name to Holland. She married Ole Johnson and together they lived at Hampton, Franklin County, Iowa. .
