Mylen was born to Bernard H. and Dora B. (Brandt) Wegener. He attended Sacred Heart School in Cornlea, Nebraska On April 10-1950, Mylen and Loretta M. Henrink were married at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey, NE. They farmed and in 1956 Mylen's auctioneering career began when he enrolled in the Reisch Auction School in Mason City, Iowa. He earnestly completed two-week auctioneer program and acquired the appropriate accreditation and licensure in Nebraska. Mylen began and honing his auctioneering skills at local farm sales, noting that he practiced by repeating tongue-twisters so often that he would become "use to his own chant". In 1956, he formed his own action business, Cornlea Auction. It engaged in auctioning and selling new and used farm equipment and periodic consignment sales. Mylen was a member of the Board of Directors of NeAA and served as the organizations president form 1976-1977. He was honored by the NeAA when he was named Auctioneer of the Year. He also conducted auctioneering seminars in various state and national conferences. For the past 48 years, he volunteered as the senior auctioneer an auctioned livestock each year at the Platte County Fair in Columbus, NE. Also active in his church and served on the St. Francis Catholic Church parish council and cemetery board and the Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Affiliation. He also volunteered his auctioneer services at community, church, and other charitable fundraising. Over his 54 year career, he auctioned over 10,000 sales.
