Nioma Ludean Yott, or Lu as everyone knew her, went to be with her lifetime friend Jesus Christ on Feb. 13, 2017. She leaves behind the love of her life, George Yott, to whom she was married for 60 years. They met in McAlester while George was stationed at the McAlester Navy Base. When George received orders to leave she agreed to go with him as long as he promised to bring her home eventually, and he did. George and Lu's adventures in the Navy criss-crossed them across the nation, and they weathered being separated for seven Mediterranean cruises during a total of 22 years of Navy life. Lu's life changed forever when Freda Mullins introduced her to Jesus and she began her walk with Him. George brought Lu home and together they raised their three children. Lu taught religious education and worked with the youth of both Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hartshorne and St. John's Catholic Church in McAlester. She was one of the founding members of the Oklahoma Cursillo movement, sharing her love for Jesus with women from all over the state. Lu worked for Farmer's Home Administration for five years. After her time there, she worked for Phoenix Federal. Lu loved to travel and spent her retirement years planning and sharing in wonderful trips with her family and friends. She was proud of her Chickasaw heritage and loved Native American art. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at St. Joseph Church in Krebs, celebrated by the Rev. Kingsley George-Obilonu. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in McAlester.
