Bio

Harry A. Orahood, 93, died July 5, 2016 in Oklahoma City. He was born October 18, 1922 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Adelbert Wayne and Dorothy Leone (Wynkoop) Orahood. He served his country in the Army from 1943 to 1946. He returned to Oklahoma and worked as a HVAC contractor and engineer. He is survived by two daughters, Vicki Lynn Wilcox of the home, and Cheryl Woodruff. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Britton Road Baptist Church, 1141 W. Britton Rd., with full Military Honors. Harry A. Orahood was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Wayne and Dorothy (Wynkoop) Orahood on October 18, 1922. He grew up in Chickasha where he attended school and was an avid sports enthusiast. During high school he played football, basketball, baseball, and excelled in tract. He graduated from Chickasha High School in 1940. Harry was inducted into the Army in January, 1943 and served 20 months in North Africa with the 423rd M.P.&G Company. Following his military service, he met and married Nettie Rose Bohn on November 24, 1946. Harry and Nettie had two children, Vicki (born in 1947) and Cheryl (born in 1955). He earned his HVAC Engineering Degree from Southwestern State Technical in 1952. He worked in the heat and air industry for many years, and also taught students the trade. He retired as service manager for Carrier Distributors. In June of 1981 Harry lost his first wife Nettie. He remarried Dorothy McDonald in 1982. They were members of Chisholm Baptist Church in Mustang, OK. In 2002 they moved to Oklahoma City and were members of Britton Baptist Church. Harry enjoyed watching football, baseball, and car racing. He was talented at restoring vintage classic cars. He had a life-long passion for 40's and 50's music, and had compiled an extensive collection of records. Harry also loved all animals and found joy in adopting rescue dogs. The family will remember Harry as kind, compassionate, faithful, and a true gentleman in every sense of the word. Others have said that he was the kindest man they had ever known. He will be greatly missed. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Nettie, his second wife Dorothy, his sister Sharon (Orahood) Lyell. He is survived by his children, Vicki (Steve) Wilcox of Oklahoma City, and Cheryl (Steve) Woodruff of Virginia Beach, Virginia; his stepchildren, Steve (Jackie) McDonald, Sandy (Gerald) Best, all of Broken Arrow OK; three grandchildren, three step grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and three step great-grandchildren, a nephew, a niece, and a great niece and nephew.
