Bio

Jerry George Janis, 93, of El Campo, passed away January 7, 2017. He was born on December 14, 1923 in East Bernard to the late Joseph and Julie Pustejovsky Janis. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a Prisoner of War and a Purple Heart recipient. Jerry was a well tester for Jayhawk Engineering and a farmer. He was a member of K.J.T., Knights of Columbus Council 2490, American Legion Post 251, VFW and DAV. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, August, Vencil, Alex and Johnnie Janis. Visitation begins 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 11 at Triska Funeral Home with Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass begins 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 12 at St. Philip Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Rother officiating. Entombment with military honors under the auspices of American Legion Post 251 will follow at Holy Cross Memorial Park.
