Bio
22 year old Mattie married widower and ex-Confederate Cavalryman, William Walter "W.W." Jones 16 Nov. 1882 in Williamson co., TX. Her grandchildren, who remembered her well, say she never heard from her parents or siblings again. Her father David Davis, also a Confederate Army veteran, was a Presbyterian Minister. She is said to have burned worthless Confederate money in the fireplace for kindling. Also, apparently because of the age difference between them, people who knew her say she called her husband "Mr. Jones". Mattie and W.W. Jones' children were; Emzy Dudley born 1883, Marvin Luther born 1885, David Carl born 1887, Oscar Cyrus "Bill" born 1889, Essie Edna (Mayfield) born 1895 & William Winton "Dewey" or "Tuck" was born in 1898 along with a stillborn twin brother.
