MITCHELL COUNTY NEWS FEBRUARY 12, 1942 Funeral services for Mrs. W . A. Davis were held at the Methodist; Church Friday at 3 p. m. with Rev. E. C. Raney, pastor, in charge, and Rev. J. E. Shewbert, a former pastor, giving the funeral sermon. Burial was in the Loraine cemetery under the direction G. W . Hendrick. Leila Pylant was born August 3, 1891 at Auburn, Texas, in Ellis County. She moved from there with her mother and family to Carlton, Texas, her father being deceased before her birth. From Carlton they went to Iredell, thence to Mitchell County in 1907. She was married to William A. Davis December 19, 1909, near Loraine. To this union were born two sons J. B. and Leonard. J. B. passed away February 2, 1919. Mrs. Davis was converted in 1929 and united with the Methodist Church here where she has been a faithful member and loyal attendant. Mrs. Davis’ health had not been good for five years and last Thursday she became seriously ill, passing away, at her home here Thursday. She is survived by her husband one son, Leonard, a niece, Vinita May Pylant, who has made her home with them for five years. She is also survived by five brothers, three of whom were present at the funeral. They are Irve Pylant of Fluvanna, William Pylant of Dallas, Henry Pylant of Jonesboro, Charley Pylant and Tolly Pylant of Santiago, California. Besides these there is a large number of nieces and nephew.
