ORD — Evelyn M. Proskocil, 92, of Ord passed away Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, at the Valley County Health System Hospital in Ord. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. Father John Kakkuzhiyil will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Evelyn Mae was born July 11, 1924, in Valley County, to Joseph and Frances (Waldmann) Kamarad. She graduated from Comstock High School in 1943. Evelyn grew up attending polka dances at Woodman Hall, National Hall, Jugman and Comstock with her father who was a clarinet player. It was at a dance that she met James Proskocil and they were married Nov. 3, 1943, at Geranium Catholic Church. Jim and Evelyn lived on farms in the Comstock, Sargent, Westerville and Arcadia areas. In 1955, they moved to Omaha where Jim worked for Kellogg Cereal. Missing the farm life, family and friends they returned to the Comstock/Arcadia area in 1956. During her later high school years and immediately after marriage Evelyn worked for Farmers Union in Comstock. The couple ran the Comstock Theater and she also worked at Copps Grocery Store and Bud’s Bar. Evelyn worked in Ord for Leonard and Pat Proskocil’s Café, Jerry Vanek’s Tavern and Starlite Lounge. After moving to Ord in March 1976, Evelyn and Jim bought a farm with their son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Pat Proskocil. Later she worked for the Valley County Hospital and retired as the director of housekeeping. Evelyn was a member of home extension clubs and the Does. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, James and Pat Proskocil of Plattsburg, Mo., and Donald Proskocil of Ord; her grandchildren, Kevin Burson, Kimberly Burson, Jacob Kulhanek, Timothy Proskocil, Randy Proskocil, Trisha Proskocil, Sarah Gorecki, Heather VanVelson and Daniel Proskocil; her great-grandchildren, Hunter and Kate Sullivan, Morgan and Nate Kulhanek, Brandon Stimilsky, Racheal and Tyler Noland, Petrina McWilliams, Elijah, Preston, Hayden and Kinsley Proskocil; Quinnlyn and Rowynn Gorecki and expectant Baby VanNelson; a sister, Doris Hurlburt; four sisters-in-law, Evelyn Kamarad, Charlotte Kamarad, Lillian Tvrdik and Dorothy Key; a brother-in-law, Leonard Proskocil; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James, in 1982; her daughter, Erma Jean Heine, in 2008; and two brothers, Leonard and Richard Kamarad.
