Richard J. Kamard, 88, of Comstock died Sunday June 1, 2014 at his home. Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sargent. The Father Mark Maresh will officiate. Burial will be in the Geranium Catholic Cemetery East of Sargent. Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent is in charge of arrangements. Richard Joseph Kamarad, Sr. was born April 21, 1926 near Comstock, NE. to Joseph and Frances (Waldmann) Kamarad. He attended school in Comstock and graduated high school in 1943. After graduation, he helped farm with his father for three years. Richard then enlisted in the Army where he attended Signal Corps School at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. While in attendance, he received occupational training as a radio operator HSL766 with military rifle qualification. Richard served as a radio operator during his tour of duty during World War II. His enlistment concluded on April 18, 1947 when he returned home to resume farming. Richard entered into marriage on November 21, 1950. Of this union, six children were born. He spent many hours attending sporting events of his children and grandchildren. He also worked at the Sargent Alfalfa Mill. Richard was an active member of lAmerican Legion Post #220 and Geranium Catholic Church until it's closure. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Frances, his brother, Leonard and many other relatives. Survivors include Dennis Kamarad of Scotia, NE., Marvin (Deb) Kamard of Pleasant Dale, NE., Monica Kamarad of Ord, NE., Richard Kamarad, JR. and Cindy (Brad) Walker all of Lexington, NE. Angie (Mike) Upah of Lincoln, NE., 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
