Robert Carrol Hansen, 92, of Grand Island died Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island. Visitation will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday, December 16, at All Faiths Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 5:30 p.m. Burial will be at the Dane Cemetery, northwest of Red Cloud, at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, December 17. Robert was born August 3, 1924 to Harry and Rachel (Bean) Hansen on the family farm in Webster County, NE. He attended rural school in Red Cloud and Webster County. Robert began custom farming with his father in 1938 and raised a special Hereford blood line from Robert’s mother’s 4-H heifers in 1914. He was united in marriage to Mildred Bernice (Shipman) Harris on August 15, 1963. Adding to the marriage were Mildred’s four children. In 1975, he sold the homestead for a ranch and moved to Greeley County west of Spalding. Robert continued cattle ranching and haying until 1996 when he retired and moved to Grand Island. Robert became a member of Spirit of Life Church where he served as a greeter and usher. He also volunteered at Golden Living Center. He loved visiting and joking with people and always had a story to tell. Robert enjoyed his family. Many hours were spent playing Canasta and Pitch. He taught his grandchildren how to play cards and ride horses. He is survived by his friend and caregiver, Patti Kier; stepchildren, William Harris, Ronald and Deanie Harris, all of Holstein, NE, Marlene and William Ruth of Oklahoma City, OK, and Michael and Bernice Harris of Grand Island; ten grandchildren, Sandra Cope, Tammy Ruth, Tony and Sherri Ruth, Scott Ruth, Kerri Knotts, Ron and Betsy Harris, Laci and Jared Reiners, Stacy and Matt Harris, Wendy and Chad Gerk, and Jason and Britni Harris; 26 great-grandchildren; and 11 great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred; infant brother; infant sister; a grandson and a great great-grandson.
