Kingsland - William Henry "Jerry" Hardisty, age 79, of Highland Haven, Texas passed away January 1, 2007. He was born February 14, 1927 in Lamesa, Texas to Benjamin Thomas and Dolly (Preuit) Hardisty. Jerry was a U.S. Army veteran and proudly served his country stationed in Austria just following World War II. After his service in the military, he graduated from Eastern New Mexico University. He met, and then married, the love of his life, Danna Lee Floyd on March 13, 1955 in Snyder, Texas. Jerry was a devout Christian and avid American patriot. He was a lifelong learner who enjoyed expanding his mind and challenging himself spiritually, physically and mentally. He loved playing golf, studying the bible, reading all things political and historical (as well as fiction), playing bridge, working crossword puzzles, working out, skiing and hanging out and having a good laugh with his family and grandchildren. He was always eager to bend an ear with his political commentary and maintained a list of suggested reading for his children and grandchildren to whom he was a role model. Before moving to the Texas hill country, Jerry spent a majority of his career in Monahans, Texas with the public accounting firm Hoyer, Hardisty, Kelley and Smith, CPA's, where he was a partner, until he retired in 1994. He was very active in the community of Monahans where he served as Chamber of Commerce ambassador, City Councilman, a member of the Lion's Club, treasurer of the First United Methodist Church, and treasurer for the Republican party of Ward County, Texas. While in Monahans Jerry spent many years breeding, raising and showing quarter horses. He was a very involved father and attended all of his children's and many of his grandchildren's sporting events, band concerts, recitals and other activities. He was a much-beloved husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of over 51 years, Danna Lee Hardisty of Highland Haven, TX; his daughters: Mitzi Jane Hardisty Reneau and her husband, Tom, of Marble Falls, TX; and Connie Lee Hardisty of San Mateo, CA; his son, Thomas Edgar Hardisty, and his wife, Elizabeth, of Houston, TX; his grandchildren: Clair Hardisty Baker of Arlington, VA; Lura Elayne Hardisty of Houston, TX; William Jacob Hardisty Ashbaugh of San Mateo, CA; Benjamin Thomas Hardisty and Garrett Poehl Hardisty of Houston, TX; his sisters: Lucy Anne Harrison and her husband, Paul, of Clovis, NM; Helen Mercer and her husband, Al, Albuquerque, NM; Carolyn Hardisty of Nogales, AZ; his brother Dan Hardisty and his wife, Barbara of Ruidoso, NM his sister-in-law, Nadine Hardisty of Clovis, NM; and many nieces, nephews and close friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Benny and John Hardisty. Visitation for Jerry will be held Thursday, January 4, 2007 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Putnam Funeral Home, Kingsland, Texas. A memorial service, celebrating Jerry's life, will be held on Friday, January 5, 2007 at 11:30 am at Highland Lakes United Methodist Church in Buchanan Dam, Texas. Reverend Grady Roe will officiate.
