Bio

Services for Charles Pope, 70, of Gainesville are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Southside Baptist Church in Gainesville with Rev. Duke Dowling of Southside Baptist Church in Gainesville officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Clement-Keel Funeral Home of Gainesville. Mr. Pope died Dec. 30, 2006, at Denton Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 10, 1936, in Waco to William and Lokie (Fuller) Pope. On June 14, 1957, he married Billie Annelle West in Gainesville. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church, worked for Linda Jo Shoe Company for more than 20 years, and retired from Weber Aircraft Company after more than 28 years. Survivors include his wife, Billie Annelle Pope of Gainesville; daughters and sons-in-law, Paula and Kevin Ponce of Edmond, Okla., and Karen and Jack Steed of Whitesboro; three grandchildren, Dustin Duke of Houston, Anna Duke of Edmond, Okla., and David and spouse Autum Duke of Guthrie, Okla.; two great-grandchildren, Lacey Duke and Jaden Duke of Guthrie, Okla.; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Travis Johnson of Denton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Raymond Pope, James Pope and Ross Pope; and two sisters, Olene Bybee and Bessie Stubblefield. Pallbearers are Delbert West, Benny West, Bobby West, Dustin Duke, David Duke and Sonny McMillan.
