Homes In Community Are Saddened When Death Claims Member. Archie Clarke Damon, son of James G. and Martha Damon was born Jan. 15, 1861 at Bradford, Illinois and passed away Thursday, April 17, 1935 aged 71 years 3 months and 2 days. On October 27, 1883, he was married to Miss Millie Billips at Kewanee. The next spring they moved to Nebraska where they set up their home and lived two years. In 1886 they moved back to Bradford and farmed several different places in succession, one place for twenty-three years, another for twelve. They lived on the present premises for a good many years. Seven children were born to them, two dying in infancy, Mary and Cora, a third, Mrs. Roma (George) Golder, died in 1933. Mr. and Mrs. Damon celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1933. Mr. Damon was assessor of Osceloa township one year, having to give up further service on account of ill health. He was an honorary member of the Modern Woodmen of America. He joined the Methodist church in Bradford under the pastorate of Rev. R. I. Vivian in 1905. Mr. Damon was a man of honor and of kindly and affable ways. His neighbors always found him ready to help in any trouble and they had confidence in him in his dealings. Many called him “Uncle Archie” because of his genial spirit. He is survived by his wife and four children; James Damon, Joe Damon, Mrs. Fleata (Ralph) Hapner, of this place and Mrs. Thelma (W.C.) Ridings of Kewanee, He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and by one sister, Mrs. Nettie Liggett and one Brother, Fred Damon of Kalispell, Montana. These two are the last members of a family of fourteen children. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Stanley Ward at the Methodist church, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial was in the Bradford cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. John Carroll, Thomas Hay, Mrs. Charity Phillips, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Briggs, Mrs. and Mrs. Wm. Miller and daughter. Marjorie, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. McKeever, Mrs. Frank Saunders, Mrs. Ethel Davis, Mrs. Harry Hodgson and son, Mrs. and Mrs. Hallie Wade, Mrs. Arthur Babb, Orion Babb, Rev. Venice Blacketer, Eli Scott and Jack Lee of Kewanee. Mr. and Mrs. L. VanOstrand, Mrs. Mary Woodward, Mrs. Carl Friday, Mrs. George Henninger, of Henry and Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Conoghy, of Cambridge.
