Ida Mae Janky, 91, of Grand Island passed away Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016, at CHI Health St. Francis. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Interment will follow in the Grand Island Cemetery. Ida Mae Janky was born May 15, 1925, to Fred and Elsie (Dahlke) Vinecore at Grand Island. She was a 1943 graduate of Grand Island Senior High. Ida worked at CE Brown Auto Supply as a bookkeeper and then for the Fairmont Creamery for six years. Ida was united in marriage to George Janky on Sept. 30, 1947, in Grand Island. She then was a full-time homemaker until their children were in school. Ida served as a Cub Scout leader, and as an assistant Brownie leader; she was also employed by The Grand Island Independent and Fonner Park, as well as Skagway until retiring in 1992. Ida enjoyed traveling, taking many bus trips throughout the United States and Canada; she also loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and also enjoyed bowling and crocheting. Ida is survived by her children and their spouses, James “Jim” and Mary Janky and Cheryl and Clark Brown; grandchildren, Amy (Brig) Heaton; Adam (Amy) Janky; Megan Brown, and Justin Brown; and a great-granddaughter, Olivia Brown; and a sister, Eva “Sally” Larison of San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; and a sister, Ethel Juett.
