Vera L. (Hanner) Sercl, 96, of Lincoln, Nebraska, was surrounded by loved ones when she went HOME to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 17, 2016. Born February 19,1920 in Garrison, Nebraska, the daughter of Louis and Katrina (Miller) Hanner. Vera was a long time Seward, Nebraska resident. A graduate of Seward High, Vera moved to Lincoln, where she was employed by the Lincoln Airport and waited on personalities such as Wilbur and Orville Wright and Jimmy Stewart. On September 27, 1948, she married Vitus "Vic" Sercl of Valparaiso, Nebraska. Vera will be remembered as a devoted, loving, selfless wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was upbeat, prayerful, faithful, hardworking, always thinking of others, generous, and loved cooking, baking, music, and gardening, She traveled extensively within the U.S.. Formerly employed by St. Teresa's School and a member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church. Vera was a member of the Valparaiso Legion Auxiliary and The Pink Sisters Ladies Auxiliary, as well as a former Sunshine Award recipient. Her phone was her lifeline and she kept in touch with numerous family and friends which brought her great joy. Family members include: children, Sharon(Perry) Wood, Carol "Cece" (Larry) Evermann, David (Joanne), and Timothy Sercl; grandchildren; Robert Hart, Tim (Caitlin) Wood, Caleb (Kaylea) Sercl, Shane Sercl, Kelsey Sercl, Austin Sercl, Natalie Sercl; great grandchildren: Reece Hart, Zoe Wood; many nieces and nephews, cousins and close friends. Preceded in death by: her husband, "Vic" Sercl (1993); four brothers; a sister; and many sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws. Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 36th & Randolph St with Msgr Joseph Nemec officiating. Burial in Lincoln Memorial Park.
