Bio

Thanks to contributor #48796369 Clarence W. Hanner, 83, of Grand Island died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System in Grand Island. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Julie Bringelson will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Hanner was born March 13, 1918, at Seneca to Lewis E. and Kathryn (Miller) Hanner. He grew up and was educated in Seneca and Octavia, graduating from Octavia High School in 1936. He entered the U.S. Air Force on May 18, 1942, and served with the RRAF Command (Australian Command) during World War II. He was discharged Oct. 28, 1945. In 1950, he began working for Diamond Engineering. He married Eva Kuhn on May 27, 1955, in Valentine. The couple lived in Clarks and moved to Grand Island in 1960. He continued to work for Diamond Engineering as a foreman and retired in 1983 after 33 years of service. His wife died Feb. 26, 1995. He continued to live in Grand Island. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Eagles, VFW and American Legion. Survivors include a stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Lois and Larry Mason of Central City; three stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Dan and Jackey Roumpf of Kearney, Monte and Betty Roumpf of Des Moines, Iowa, and Kent and Lana Roumpf, Nebraska City; two grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters and brother-in-law, Vera Sercel of Lincoln and Glena and Alvin Hosenohr of Dewitt. He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter, Sharon Berger, and three brothers, Kenneth, Lloyd and Walter Hanner. The Grand Island Independent, Feb. 26, 2002
