Bio

June V. Lemke , age 99, of Medford, passed away on Tuesday, Nov, 1 at Aspirus Care and Rehab, Medford where she had resided for the past five years. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Medford with Pastor Brian Mundt officiating. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Medford. Interment of her cremated remains will take place at Medford Evergreen Cemetery at a later date. Pallbearers will be Bob Bowen, Jr., Bryan Bowen, David Lemke Jr., Dennis Lemke, Lorne Lemke, Lisa Lemke-Legler, John Lemke and Tom Lemke. June was born on June 3, 1917 in Medford to the late Emma Bertha Claviter and Peter Thunn Peterson. She attended Medford elementary schools, was a 1934 graduate of Medford High School and a 1935 graduate of Taylor County Normal School, Medford. On October 6, 1936 at Belvidere, Ill. she married Arthur Schneider and he preceded her in death on January 18, 1942. On August 21, 1943, in Hartland, she married Herman Lemke and he preceded her in death December 12, 1977. After her education, she taught at the Mathey School in the Town of Medford for a short period of time. She clerked at the Medford Co-op for a period of time and worked as a housewife/mother for most of her life. They owned and operated a mink ranch in the Town of Medford for a period of time. June enjoyed quilting, traveling to Nicaragua, where she taught sewing and has a learning center named after her, making Amish dolls, bowling and painting. She was a leader of the Thrifty Go-Getters 4-H Club. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Medford, Taylor Co. Historical Society, where she also worked as a volunteer, Past G.U.G. Germania member and charter member of the Memorial Hospital Auxilary, Medford June is survived by her sons, David (Shirley) Lemke of Medford and Russell (Marlene) Lemke of Mosinee; Son-in-law, Robert Bowen of Stevens Point; step-daughter-in-law, Florence Lemke of Medford; foster child, Rita Warner of Mosinee; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a daughter, Sherin Bowen in 2009; step-children, Frank Lemke and Betty (Joe) Prohaska; step-granddaughter, Patricia Lemke; and step-grandson, David Prohaska; siblings, Myles, Lee and Claude Peterson, Hazel Bloom, Joyce Buss, Meryl Nielsen and Carol Pennington.
