Bio

Born Ellen McGlone Jan 15, 1856 In Richmond, WI. she was the eldest of 12 children born to Michael McGlone and Mary (McGlone) McGlone, Irish immigrants. In 1880 was working as a servant for a farm family near Richmond. By the time of the 1885 NE. State census she had moved to North Platte Ne. where her parents had homesteaded, but in that same year, she went to Sinsinawa Mound, Wisconsin and became a postulant for the Dominican Sisters there. She professed On December 15, 1885, taking the name of Sr. Mary Francesca. After some training by a local doctor and a druggist, she became a self-trained pharmacist for the order and operated a small pharmacy for many years at the Convent.
